Our Story

#TeamOwen SuperDraft

On Sept 16th, 2023, Owen Weaver, was in a serious car accident on his way home from the Oregon State Football game when the car he was riding in was rear-ended. Owen suffered multiple skull fractures, leaving him fighting for his life. Owen spent several months in the PICU, where there were moments where we were not sure if he was going to survive.

In early Dec, Owen was stable enough to transfer to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago for TBI-specialized rehab, which is where he is currently still undergoing care and rehabilitation. We are hopeful he will be returning to Oregon soon.

Chad Ulogar, a local baseball coach and trainer, met Owen several months prior to the accident when Owen came in for hitting lessons. When Chad heard the news of the accident, he presented the SuperDraft tournament idea to some good friends of Owen’s family.

Chad ran a SuperDraft Tournament in Ohio in 2020 for Ashton Staton, a baseball player. Ashton was having headaches during a baseball tournament and, after being placed in a medically induced coma, was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease where his immune system was attacking his brain receptors. The tournament Chad ran was very successful in raising money for the Staton family, so the team decided to try it here in Oregon.

Chad and Chrissy Hamlin enlisted the help of another local baseball mom and former teammate of Owen Weaver, Amber Coe. Over the course of two months this team managed to pull off a very successful event that not only raised money for Owen but also brought the local baseball community together.
